Learning

I am more of a traditional thinker when it comes to school work and research projects so I have to say using a learning screen as opposed to a regular research paper was very difficult for me and I am not sure how much I actually enjoyed it. However, both do have good and bad things about them. A research paper usually has a very rigid structure, intro, three main points, and conclusion. It also usually comes with a page requirement. It has to be typed out usually formal language with multiple sources cited correctly. There is no straying from this format, unless you have a really different teacher. The learning screen gives you lots more freedom. As with our projects, the research is not one long paper but multiple sections that can be complied together to make a whole. We were able to choose different templates that expressed ourselves and give some character to the research that was being done. However, it is important for students to learn how to write traditional research papers. It teaches them the skills they need to be good writers and prepares them for the inevitable, they will write a research paper in college. The learning screen, being new, may be very confusing to some. Also being technology, it’s going to have some bugs and this may frustrate students to no end. I think the best thing a teacher could do is to use both methods in their classroom. Have the students write a traditional paper first and then apply those skills to the learning screen and be more creative with it. I think both can be very effective ways of learning.
